Swimming and Swimming: Words Ending in -Ing.
Tuesday, December 22
7:00 to 8:00 p.m. CT
What is the difference between a swimming coach and a swimming coach? Quite a lot, actually, from a grammatical point of view. Writing Smartly’s next seminar on Tuesday, December 22, will explain the difference between a present participle and a gerund, two very different parts of speech, though each ends similarly with the suffix –ing. We will also consider how the gerund should work with pronouns (I didn’t like him going there or his going there?), and where to place participles to avoid ambiguity. Participants will receive a handout that summarizes the presentation, together with exercises and answers for private study. You may enroll now through this registration link. Tuition is $25.
