Using or Not Using the Comma: Restriction
Tuesday, January 26
6:30 to 7:30 p.m. CT
Which of these sentences is punctuated correctly: my friend Tom is a lawyer; my friend, Tom, is a lawyer; or my friend, Tom is a lawyer? Much depends on whether and where to place a comma, and the next Writing Smartly seminar will explain this tricky but important department of grammar called restriction. Our discussion will also look at the difference between which and that, two confusing pronouns also involved in this important use of the comma. Participants will receive a handout that summarizes the presentation, along with exercises and answers. You may enroll now through this registration link. Tuition is $25. Please note the new starting time: 6:30 p.m. CT.
